The pounder is built by GRT Utilicorp, Inc., a family-owned manufacturer in Wooster, Ohio with roughly five decades in post-driving and drilling equipment. Their self-contained drivers set steel and wood posts with a hydraulic drop hammer and pull them with a heavy-duty extractor cylinder.
This unit is from GRT’s zero-tail-swing line — a frame design with a compact swing radius that eliminates the counterweight overhang on the non-work side of the machine. That overhang is what often forces extra lane closures when a driver sits near live traffic, so the design is aimed squarely at keeping more of the road open.
